Pelham Manor police blotter: July 15-21

Sunday, July 15

1:59 a.m. – An officer on patrol reported a vehicle parked and unoccupied with its headlights on in the driveway of a residence on Francis Street. The owner was contacted and notified, and she stated she would turn the vehicle’s lights off.

3:59 a.m. – A woman of Prospect Avenue called, reporting that she had heard a loud noise, what sounded like a crash, in the rear yard of her residence and was concerned. Upon arrival, officers observed a broken tree branch in the rear yard and spoke with the resident, who stated she was unsure of when it occurred. A search of the surrounding area yielded negative results.

5:16 a.m. – An employee of 24 Hour Fitness, located at 887 Pelham Parkway, accidentally dialed 911.

8:25 a.m. – A caller advised of a loose dog in front of a Roosevelt Avenue residence that appeared to be lost. The caller called back soon after the initial call and advised the previous call could be disregarded, as the dog was in front of its home and the owner came out.

7:14 p.m. – A woman called, stating she was concerned about an elderly woman who had been walking around for approximately two hours. The woman was described as white, wearing tall rain boots and a dark t-shirt, and was last seen headed towards Esplanade on Wolfs Lane. The officers found the woman, and report she was just walking around enjoying the weather and was heading home.

9:06 p.m. – A resident of Shoreview Circle accidentally dialed 911. Officers were dispatched and reported that all was in order.

9:49 p.m. – A woman of James Street called, reporting that her 40-year-old son was out of control and talking to himself, and she wanted him transported to a hospital. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the woman who stated that her son suffered from two mental disorders and needed to go to the hospital. Both parties stated that they got into an argument over loud banging noises that were heard from the son’s room. This escalated into arguing about disability money that the mother receives in the son’s name, but he never sees any of the money. The mother then stated that her son had recently changed his medication and that he was unpredictable and verbally threatened her. The son stated that he was taking his medication and felt fine, and was then voluntarily transported to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital.

Monday, July 16

12:07 a.m. – A call was received from Park Lane, reporting an elderly woman was suffering from abdominal pain. Upon arrival, the woman stated she was suffering from back, shoulder and abdominal pain, and that her body was shaking. She also stated she suffered from high blood pressure. She was transported to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital for further evaluation.

10:35 a.m. – Police and medic responded to Prospect Hill Elementary School on report of a child who had fallen and hurt his wrist. The child’s mother arrived on scene and refused further medical attention.

11:31 a.m. – A woman of Wynnewood Road called, reporting her husband was experiencing shortness of breath. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the husband, who stated that he was having some difficulty breathing. The medic arrived on scene and administered oxygen. The man was transported to Montefiore Medical Center for further medical treatment.

1:02 p.m. – A caller stated a pregnant employee of Wingstop, located at 4326 Boston Post Road, was having shortness of breath and feeling dizzy. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the woman, who stated she was twelve weeks pregnant, was having difficulty breathing and was having chest pains. She was transported to Einstein/Weiler Hospital for further medical treatment.

1:32 p.m. – Received a call from the NYPD 45th Precinct, reporting a 16-year-old girl who stated she was lost at the Sprint Store at 845A Pelham Parkway. They realized the call was from Pelham Manor and tried to call back, but were unable to reach the girl. She was described as wearing jeans, sandals, and a tan backpack. Officers located her, and she stated she had taken the wrong bus. Detectives transported her to her residence and turned her over to her mother.

4:00 p.m. – A woman walked into the police station to report that on July 15th at approximately 11 a.m., she believes she left her wallet at Five Below of 846 Pelham Parkway. She returned approximately five minutes later when she realized her wallet was missing, and could not recall if she left it at the register or in the shopping cart. The wallet contained $75 in cash, credit cards, debit cards, and other personal papers. She canceled all of her debit and credit cards and received no fraudulent charges on any of the accounts, and was making a report for documentation purposes only.

Tuesday, July 17

1:34 p.m. – A resident of Split Rock Road called, reporting a suspicious vehicle in front of her home. The vehicle was described as a small, silver Acura with blacked out windows. Officers canvassed the area with negative results.

2:10 p.m. – A woman of Boston Post Road called, stating that her 98-year-old husband was in his chair and she could not wake him up, and she believed he had passed away. Upon arrival, the man was observed in a seated position in a chair in the living room. He had no pulse, rigor mortis had begun, and he showed signs of dependent lividity in his feet. No suspicious circumstances were observed on or around his body. He was pronounced dead at 2:19 p.m., and the medical examiner arrived at 3:45 p.m.

4:10 p.m. – A call was received from an anonymous woman, reporting heavy roadway flooding near Mount Tom Road and Rockledge Drive. Officers on scene reported that the roadway was not passable, and set up cones to block the roadway. The flooding dissipated and the cones were removed at 4:50 p.m.

4:15 p.m. – Officers reported a party attempted to drive through the roadway at Mount Tom Road and Rockledge Drive, and became stuck and was in need of assistance. The party was removed from the vehicle unharmed and the vehicle towed by Westchester Collision.

7:13 p.m. – A woman walked into the police station to report that at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, July 16, she was walking northbound on Esplanade near Hazen Street when she greeted another woman who was walking her dog on a leash. The dog was described as a white dog, approximately 60 pounds with brown spots around its eyes. The woman stated that when she went to greet the dog, it bit her left forearm with force. It resulted in bruising on her left forearm and a small area where skin was broken. She stated she did not want the owner of the dog to receive a summons, and only wanted a report done for the safety of others. Officers spoke to the owner of the dog and advised her to be more aware when walking her dog around other people. Pictures of the bite mark were secured into evidence.

Wednesday, July 18

9:11 a.m. – A resident of Timpson Street called, reporting that a basement window of her home had been broken. Upon arrival, officers reported that they observed a small basement window had been broken, and it did not appear that entry had been gained or that the premise had otherwise been disturbed. The woman only wanted to apprise the police of the situation and did not wish any further police action.

11:11 a.m. – The manager of Dollar Tree, located at 806 Pelham Parkway, called to report a larceny. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the manager, who stated he was notified by a customer that a man had possibly stolen items from the store. He then checked the video surveillance, on which he observed a black male wearing a white t-shirt, dark shorts, and who appeared to walk with a limp enter the store at approximately 10:27 a.m. He was seen taking merchandise from the store, walking out the store past all points of sale without paying and loading the merchandise into the trunk of a minivan with the help of the driver, who was described as a tall black male wearing a white hat, dark shirt, dark shorts and white sneakers. The first suspect repeated this process of taking merchandise from the store and loading it into the vehicle two more times, until 10:54 a.m. when both suspects entered the minivan and drove away. The stolen merchandise was eight boxes of candy, valued at $309.24. A printout of the stolen items was secured into evidence, and depositions were completed.

6:23 p.m. – A woman called to report a disabled vehicle on the side of the northbound side of the Hutchinson River Parkway. Officers were dispatched and reported the driver was lost and pulled over for directions. The driver was sent on their way.

8:05 p.m. – An officer responded to a Wynnewood Road residence on report of a party in need of medical attention. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with a young man, who stated he was lying in bed with his girlfriend when he rolled over onto her knee, causing it to dislocate. She was transported to Lawrence Hospital.

10:10 p.m. – A resident of Esplanade called, reporting three white males on bicycles, all with headlights on the front, went up her driveway at approximately 10:00 p.m. She believes they were trying to take something from her garage. She stated that when she opened her door, they left her driveway. She believes they fled towards Boston Post Road, and confirmed nothing was taken from her garage. The surrounding area was canvassed with negative results.

10:20 p.m. – While searching for the three males on bikes from the previous call, an officer was flagged down by a woman on Esplanade, who reported that a white male wearing a gray backpack and red/orange pants was writing on signs in the area near Huguenot Church. The area was canvassed with negative results, and pictures of the graffitied signs were taken.

10:54 p.m. – An officer reported he was advised of a belligerent shirtless male in the parking lot of Kinetic Sports Club at 872 Pelham Parkway. The area was canvassed with negative results.

Thursday, July 19

12:54 a.m. – A 911 call was received from a young man, reporting a suspicious occurrence of a white male wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and carrying a black backpack who approached him and asked for money near Highbrook Avenue and Boulevard. The young man stated the party was being persistent and he gave the party his wallet, which he then gave back to the young man. The call was transferred to the Pelham Police Department.

9:43 p.m. – A man called, reporting a group of youths that had jumped the fence to the golf course in the area of Rockledge Drive. Officers reported that the area of the golf course in Pelham was clear. The New Rochelle Police Department was notified and confirmed the youths appeared to be gone on arrival.

10:34 p.m. – A resident of Esplanade called, reporting a suspicious occurrence. She stated four males on bicycles went up her driveway, made noise, and then fled on Esplanade towards Boston Post Road. Officers were dispatched; one reported he stopped a party matching the description on Pelhamdale Avenue at Manor Lane. A check of the party yielded negative results, and the other parties were gone on arrival.

Friday, July 20

8:26 a.m. – A resident of Pelhamdale Avenue called, stating a vehicle in the driveway had been entered overnight, and that the contents of the vehicle had been rifled through. The resident stated that there did not appear to be anything of significant value missing, and was calling to apprise the police of the situation.

8:27 a.m. – An employee of Fairway Market of 847 Pelham Parkway called, reporting an unruly person refusing to leave the store. The caller stated he had found a male in the back room of the store and had told him to leave, and the man refused and became argumentative. The caller stated the person was now in the customer service area. Upon arrival, officers reported that the person left the store, and that they would be canvassing the area for a black male wearing all blue. A person matching the description was found at the car wash on Fulton Avenue. The person stated he was looking for the bathroom and did not like the manner in which he was asked to leave, and would stay out of that area in the future.

5:49 p.m. – A man called, reporting what appeared to be a homeless man walking in the area of Wynnewood Road, pushing a shopping cart and seemingly disoriented. Upon arrival, officers were advised that the man had menaced a party with a screwdriver. An officer observed the man with a screwdriver in his hand, and he initially refused to drop it. After ordering him to drop it several times, the man complied. A Pelham Country Club employee stated that the man came to the Pelham Country Club and tried to enter an area where he did not belong. He was then told to leave and when employees attempted to escort him out, he pulled out a screwdriver and threatened to use it. The employee being questioned believed it was a knife. The man was then arrested, and later transported to Westchester County Jail. A temporary order of protection was issued, ordering the man to stay away from the employee he menaced, and the screwdriver was placed into evidence.

6:28 p.m. – A woman called, stating she observed a vehicle described as a white Mazda sedan driving extremely recklessly in the area of Peace Street and Grant Avenue. Officers stopped the vehicle and gave the driver a warning and sent him on his way.

6:55 p.m. – A resident of Clay Avenue reported a male party who appeared to be disoriented in front of her home. He was described as wearing a baseball cap worn backwards, a white t-shirt, and black colored pants. Upon arrival, officers report he was only talking on his cell phone and that all was in order.

Saturday, July 21

1:39 p.m. – Multiple calls were received reporting a tree had fallen and taken down wires in the area of Park Lane and Manor Circle. Officers reported that the intersection was closed due to a large limb and power lines in the roadway. Part of Manor Circle was also closed.

1:44 p.m. – A caller stated a tree branch fell and was blocking a driveway near Jackson Avenue and Highland Avenue. Officers were dispatched, and reported it was a village-owned tree and that it was off to the side. Pelham Manor Fire Department was notified, and they cut up the tree and moved it.

4:42 p.m. – A woman walked into the police station, reporting that her iPhone and credit card were stolen at Five Guys of 808 Pelham Parkway. On Thursday July 19, at approximately 4:20 p.m., she went to Five Guys to pick up food she had ordered to be delivered by her. When she left at about 5:00 p.m., and while en route to her delivery location, she realized she no longer had her iPhone or credit card. At approximately 5:30 p.m., she returned to Five Guys and looked for the iPhone and credit card but could not find them. She also spoke to the manager, who said no one had turned in an iPhone or credit card. The manager also told her there was video surveillance of the restaurant, available on request. After her credit card was taken, she also noticed two charges made to her account on July 19th. She notified the credit card company and cancelled her card. She also stated that she was able to locate her phone using the Find My iPhone app, to an address in Yonkers. Depositions were completed.

5:59 p.m. – Officers were dispatched to the New York Athletic Club of 31 Shore Road on report of a hit-and-run accident. The man calling reported that at about 5:35 p.m., he observed a black Audi trying to exit the New York Athletic Club in the wrong direction of a one way marked exit. He approached the vehicle and advised the driver that he was driving the wrong way and had to exit through the other lane. The driver became irate and stated “you can’t tell me what to do.” He then told the driver that he was security for the NYAC, and the driver attempted once more to exit. The driver then sped off, and when he did, the passenger side mirror struck the man’s right hand, injuring his pinky. The driver was described as a black male, approximately fifty years old. The man was transported to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, and a deposition was completed.
