PMHS golfer Eric Soderberg ties for seventh in Section 1 playoffs

PMHS junior Eric Soderberg tied for seventh place in the Section 1 playoffs on Tuesday.

The top 36 boys, determined by the regular-season scoring average, qualified for the section tournament. Soderberg’s score during the first round led him to be one of 20 players to qualify for the final round at Wykagyl Country Club.

The final round featured a very tough course and hot summer temperatures. “Wykagil was brutal today,” Soderberg said. “Putting was incredibly difficult… super weird breaks that you couldn’t notice while reading the green.” Soderberg shot an 83 across 18 holes.

This score would have secured Soderberg a spot in the state tournament; however, states were canceled this year due to Covid-19. Soderberg now heads into the summer with multiple tournaments lined up, looking ahead to lower his tournament scoring average for next season.
