Climate Central reported the following weather information for December in the New York City area:

This December, New York was much warmer than normal and much drier than normal. The average temperature of 43.8°F was 4.7° above normal, and the 1.39 inches of precipitation was 32% of the normal amount (data are from SC-ACIS and normal is defined relative to the 1991-2020 NCEI climate normal).

This year stood out as the third warmest December in New York in data going back to 1869.

Decembers in New York are getting hotter, leading to a change of 3.4°F since 1970. December is also the month with the second fastest rate of warming in New York.
