PMHS ice hockey advances to state championships

The PMHS ice hockey team defeated Section 7 champion Northeast Clinton 8-3 on Saturday to claim the regional title and advance to the state semifinals.

Pelham will travel to Buffalo on Saturday for the state championship final four. In the semifinal, they will play Section 2 champion Queensbury, who defeated John Jay-Cross River 7-5 on Saturday. Should they win that game, Pelham will face off against the winner of Webster Thomas and Starpoint in the state final.

It was business as usual for the Pelicans against an under-matched Northeast Clinton squad. Sophomore Griff Evans got the scoring going for Pelham with 7:55 left in the first. A minute later, he netted home a rebound to make it 2-0 Pelham, and it stayed that way until the end of the first. After Northeast Clinton cut the lead to 2-1, Pelham scored a flurry of goals thanks to juniors Luke Green, Louie Marcellino and Eric Elbery to put the boys up 5-1. Marcellino added two more to his tally by the end of the night, while freshman Marc Rosa had one for the final of 8-3.
