The New York City area was much warmer than normal and wetter than normal in February, according to Climate Central.

“The average temperature of 37.3 degrees was 1.5 degrees above normal, and the 3.23 inches of precipitation was 101% of the normal amount (data are from SC-ACIS and normal is defined relative to the 1991-2020 NCEI climate normal),” the group said. “Februarys in New York are getting hotter, leading to a change of 3.1 degrees since 1970. February is also the month with the third fastest rate of warming in New York.”

Climate Central said the March forecast from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center suggests that New York will probably also be warmer than normal this month.
