John Cerreta of Pelham, New York, passed away on November 11, 2022. He was 80 years old. Born in Calitri, Italy, to Giuseppe Cerreta and Angela DeNicola, John was one of two children. As a young boy, John showed great promise working with his hands and later attended trade school where he became a skilled carpenter. At 27 years old, John left his native Italy and emigrated to the United States. Shortly after arriving in America, while working at the Imperial Yacht Club, John met the love of his life, Jo-Ann. They would have a world-wind romance and be married within six months. The two would be happily married for forty-two years and raise two daughters together.

John worked as an operating engineer for over 20 years. He was a proud lifelong member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 137. He had a strong work ethic and loved his job. John always made sure family came first and always enjoyed spending time surrounded by family and friends, especially his pride and joys, his two granddaughters. John was a social man and was always spoken very highly of; he was good natured and had a great sense of humor.

John will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, Nonno, brother, relative and wonderful friend. He will be dearly missed. However, his family finds comfort in the many treasured memories he leaves behind.

John is survived by his two daughters, Michelle (Mostafa) Cerreta-Snoussi and Diana Cerreta. He will be missed by his two granddaughters, Sophia and Sarah Snoussi. He will also be missed by his brother, Angelo (Anna) Cerreta and his two nieces, Jolanda and Angela Cerreta. He is predeceased by his loving wife Jo-Ann Cerreta.

A celebration of John’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham NY on Tuesday November 15, 2022, between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at The Church of the Holy Family located at 83 Clove Rd, New Rochelle, NY 10801. A private interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date.
