A white sedan driving south on Second Avenue crashed into a black SUV parked on the left side of the street at about 6:45 p.m. Monday, then swerved into a white Honda parked on the right side. The driver and passenger of the car that caused the accident immediately jumped out and fled the scene with the vehicle’s engine still running and airbags deployed.
According to resident Ellen Payne, one of her neighbors chased the driver and the passenger and was able to catch the driver with the help of the Pelham police.
The parked vehicles had no passengers inside them. Payne said she heard the crash from her living room.
It is unclear if the passenger from the white sedan was caught. The person was carrying several containers, said another resident on the street.
Marijuana could be smelled from the sidewalk near the accident, Payne said. She said she did not know if the driver or passenger were injured.
The Pelham Police Department declined to comment on the incident at 8:02 p.m. Monday night.

I think it would be great if an Examiner journalist could continue to follow this case as it proceeds through the criminal justice system- what bail was set, what charges are brought, does it plea bargain and what sentence if any is imposed. Good case study for the current criminal system in Westchester asking for investigative journalism
