The Pelham Pelicans bounced back from their first loss last month, dominating Haldane High School 28-16 last Friday and improving their record on the season to 3-1.
The win featured an all-around effort from the team. On offense, Pelham recorded a total of 342 total yards, with 241 through the air, and 101 on the ground. The team’s offensive success was led by big plays from players such as WR/CB Connor Murray, who scored a 68-yard touchdown on 4th and 14 in the second quarter to put the Pelicans up 14-0, and QB Frankie Reese, who recorded a 44-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to increase the team’s lead to 28-8, and cap Pelham’s scoring for the game. In the win, Reese passed for a total of 258 yards, with 11 completions on 16 passing attempts, and 3 touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 55 yards on 5 attempts with one TD.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Pelicans delivered one of their best performances of the season, with only 215 total yards allowed, including 126 passing yards, and 89 rushing yards. In addition to limiting Haldane’s offensive yardage, the Pelham defense recorded a total of four turnovers, including three interceptions, and one fumble recovered. Players including OLB Max Hutchinson (one tackle), Dustin Reda (three tackles, one tackle for loss), and Murray (two interceptions) were among the contributors to the team’s defensive success.
The win snapped a four game road losing streak for the Pelicans, dating back to September 21 of last season, where the team suffered a 34-3 loss to Bronxville High School. In the Section One Class B standings, Pelham remains tied in first place, alongside Sleepy Hollow High School, Irvington High School, and Pearl River High School.
Pelham will look to add another win to its current record tomorrow evening, in a home match-up versus Westlake High School at 6:30 PM at Glover Field.
