After coming up short against Westlake High School in their last game, the PMHS Football Team responded with a 21-7 win over Byram Hills High School last Friday, October 10, improving their record on the season to 4-2.
The Pelican offense delivered one of its strongest offensive performances on the season, led by a dominating rushing attack. The team recorded a total of 376 yards on offense, its highest since a 397 yard outing versus Dobbs Ferry on September 21, with 369 coming on the ground. The team’s offensive success was led by sophomore RB Tristan Paganuzzi, who rushed for 317 yards on 30 attempts in the win, scoring a touchdown. Pelham QB Frankie Reese ran for the other two touchdowns, including a 1 yard sneak to put Pelham up 7-0 in the first quarter, and a three yard goal-line rush in the second quarter, to give the Pelicans a 14-7 lead after Byram Hills got on the board.
On defense, the Pelicans were able to contain the Bobcat offense throughout the contest, holding the opponent to just 154 total yards, only 52 of which came through the air. This was the third time the Pelicans have held their opponent to 14 points or fewer this season, and places the team at third among Section One Class B teams in points allowed, with 112, behind Nanuet High School (101) and Westlake (100).
With the win, the Pelicans clinched their first winning season since 2022. In the Section One Class B standings, Pelham is currently tied for third place with Irvington High School, behind Westlake (4-1), and Sleepy Hollow (5-1), with two games remaining.
Looking to end their regular season at Glover Field on a high note, the Pelicans will face off against Rye Neck High School (0-6) this evening, at 6:30, in a Senior Night and Homecoming match-up.
