April 25, 2019 – Pelham, NY – For the first time, Pelham Together – a non-profit organization located in Pelham, NY – has received $20,000 in the recently approved 2019-20 New York State budget thanks to the advocacy of Senator Alessandra Biaggi.  Pelham Together is a community coalition that works to build a healthy and vibrant community for and with the youth of Pelham and the funding is intended to support the highly regarded Pelham Together Summer Internship Program.  The Program begins with several days of job readiness training led by a youth development professional and then pairs high school students entering grades 9-12 with a local business.  Teens work for up to 30 paid hours over three weeks.  Periodic, formal meetings for the entire group and program leaders allow participants to share experiences and be supported.

“This program is a core component of Pelham Together’s work to elevate youth and build the next generation of ethical civic leaders” said Senator Biaggi, a first term member of the New York State Senate for District 34 which serves portions of the Bronx and Westchester.  “This funding will help Pelham Together develop empowered youth, engaged adults, and energized community partners, harnessing the shared sense of responsibility that makes Pelham so unique.”
