Editor’s note: This press release was provided by Village of Pelham Mayor Chance Mullen.

As of this morning, there are 44 active cases of COVID-19 in the Village of Pelham. The New York State Department of Health and the Westchester County Department of Health are currently distributing vaccines for residents ages 65 and older, as well as essential workers in the 1b category.  If you’re eligible and you’d like to schedule a vaccination appointment, you can call the New York State COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline at (833) NYS-4-VAX. Recent numbers indicate a slight decline in the positivity rate in Westchester, but please continue to stay vigilant.

Pelham Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Pelham continue to work closely to deliver as much support to our local businesses as possible. Given the recent announcement that restaurant workers may now be eligible for the next round of vaccinations, we are collecting information from each establishment to make this execution as seamless as possible. If you are a restaurant owner, please reach out to Chamber President, Cristina Chianese at PelhamChamberofCommerce@gmail.com for more information.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Village’s first community forum on policing in Pelham, which was focused on our local response policies and our approach to officer training. For those who were unable to attend, you can watch a video of the first forum on the Village’s Website.

Our second community forum will be this Thursday, February 11th at 7:00pm (Join the Zoom Meeting here). We’ll be examining our standards for officer conduct and the recommended safeguards we hope to put in place to ensure integrity and accountability. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

In case you missed it, we have now officially launched EnergySmart Homes Pelham, a new campaign with Sustainable Westchester. EnergySmart offers Pelhamites the opportunity to significantly reduce home energy consumption, lower energy bills, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the year-round comfort and value of their homes. The launch webinar last Thursday was incredibly informative and you can watch it yourself here.  My sincerest thanks to the Town of Pelham, the Environmental Coalition of the Pelhams (EcoPel), the Sustainability Advisory Board and the Climate Smart Communities Task Force, Trustee Hanan Kamal ElDahry, and all the volunteers who have been working behind the scenes to make this program a success. I’d also like to give a special shout-out to Deputy Village Clerk Cara Farrell, who serves as our CSCTF Coordinator.  More information about EnergySmart Homes Pelham, is available online.

As a final note, please join me in thanking our Public Works employees for their great work this last week. We’ve seen a tremendous amount of snow recently, and it looks like we’ve got more on the horizon. Our DPW Superintendent Joe Senerchia has managed a great team and they’ve been working overnight shifts routinely to clear snow when everyone’s cars are off the street. A big thanks to Joe, Bobby, Jerry, Sean, Anthony, Ted, Rob, Richy, Omar, Matt and Pauly. Job well done.

Have a great week, Pelham.
