Community Church of the Pelhams to hold walking retreat at Rockefeller State Park

Editor’s note: This release was provided by the Community Church of the Pelhams.

Community members are invited to join in a free walking spiritual retreat at Rockefeller State Park on Saturday, June 5. The retreat is sponsored by the Community Church of the Pelhams, United Church of Christ. The retreat is centered around the theme “Wandering in the Wilderness” and will use the experience of the Israelites’ 40 year sojourn in the wilderness of Sinai as a metaphor for thinking about where one is one’s own life. Sometimes we feel that we are “wandering in a wilderness.”

The retreat participants should arrange to meet at the Community Church at 8 a.m. on June 5, and then drive 35 minutes north to Rockefeller State Park. The goal is to return to the church parking lot about 1 p.m..

Leading the retreat are Rev. Noel Vanek, Pastor of the Community Church, and Rev. Asayo Okumura Thomas, the church’s Assistant Pastor for Spiritual Growth. Register for this retreat by emailing Rev. Vanek at [email protected], or Rev. Okumura Thomas at [email protected]. If you need more information please call Rev. Noel Vanek at 917-951-1581.

This is a free event and is open to anyone in the community who would appreciate both a scenic walking time, along with some periods of intentional reflection.

The Community Church of the Pelhams is located at 448 Washington Avenue, Pelham, NY 10803, at the corner of Highbrook and Washington Avenues. It is easily reached from the Pelham stop on the MetroNorth railroad, which is just a short walk down the hill.
