Arts picks in Westchester: John Lloyd Young concert, ‘Gesture’ on 9/11 in Pelham, ‘Cladogram’ in Katonah

SAT, AUG. 28: John Lloyd Young In Concert
This Saturday, Grammy and Tony Award-winning actor John Lloyd Young will perform a selection of songs from the 1950s and 1960s at the White Plains Performing Arts Center. Young, who is known for playing Frankie Valli in Broadway’s Jersey Boys and its film adaptation, will also perform original tunes and songs by Roy Orbison, Paul McCartney, Adele and more. Begins at 8pm.
NOW THROUGH SEPT. 18: Pelham Art Center Honors 9/11
Through September 18, Pelham Art Center will display an installation by Manju Shandler in observance of the 20th anniversary of September 11th. Shandler’s installation, Gesture, serves as a memorial to the lives lost on September 11th, 2001. The piece includes nearly 3,000 paintings, one for each person lost on that day, to reflect the size of this tragedy. Each painting depicts a range of human emotions, from horrific to uplifting. NOW THROUGH SEPT. 19: Katonah Museum of Art’s Cladogram Exhibition
Through September 19, Katonah Museum of Art presents Cladogram, the museum’s 2nd juried biennial exhibition, which features works in written and visual media. The show’s theme is inspired by the cladogram, a branching diagram that shows relationships among different species and their history of evolution. Similarly, the exhibition engages with family history, explores historical objects and challenges the dominant narrative of history and art history. Gallery hours: Tues-Sat: 10am-5pm, Sun:12-5pm.
SAT, AUG. 28: ArtsWestchester’s ArtsMobile
This Saturday, ArtsWestchester’s ArtsMobile will be at the Calvary Baptist Church Block Party for a visual arts workshop with teaching artist Miguel Cossio. The ArtsMobile program offers community members of all ages the opportunity to participate in arts activities throughout the county from July through October. Begins at 3pm.

Next Thursday, September 2, Westchester County’s Music Under the Stars will be back at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla with a live concert by Hudson Horns. This band is comprised of professionally trained musicians and has grown into one of the most sought-after brass bands in NYC. The show starts at 7pm.
