PMHS field hockey team celebrates first round win

The PMHS field hockey team fought past Somers Monday to advance to the Section A quarterfinals, winning 1-0 off a goal scored by sophomore Olivia Polsky with only four minutes left in the game.

The team lost some key players recently due to injuries, including forward and Villanova commit Eileen Mazzaro, who is out after taking a stick to the face. But the team was still able to step it up against a tough Somers side.

“We kept the pressure on throughout the whole game, finishing it with a winning goal in the fourth quarter,” said senior captain Malia McLellan. “I am super proud of this team and am excited to keep our season going.”

Pelham looks to keep its momentum during the home quarterfinal game against fifth-seeded Horace Greeley on Wednesday evening.
