Pelham forward Eileen Mazzaro returned to play during the second quarter for the first time since being injured Oct. 14.

After winning the league championship and making a strong playoff run, the Pelham field hockey team fell short Wednesday night in an overtime thriller at Glover Field. Following four scoreless quarters, Horace Greeley got the best of Pelham with a breakaway goal to win in sudden death.

Greeley advanced to the semifinals of the Class B field hockey tournament.

“It was a really disappointing way to end the season, but I’m super proud of how everyone played, not only tonight but throughout every game,” said senior captain Eileen Mazzaro.

Mazzaro, an offensive powerhouse who’s signed to play for Villanova University, returned to the field in the second quarter for the first time since being injured on senior night Oct. 14.

This season the Pelicans won their league for the second straight year and look to continue maintaining winning tradition next year.
