Rotary names Pollock and Kelly as Scholars of the Month in December

Rotary Club of the Pelhams honored Pelham Memorial High School seniors Olivia Pollock and Andrew Kelly as Marilyn Stiefvater Scholars of the Month in December.

Olivia Pollock, an Advanced Placement Scholar with distinction, has won several science awards and was an international finalist in Genius Olympiad. Their project in science research has been developing and assessing fucose-based water-soluble bioplastics. They won the Smith College and Princeton College Book Awards and the Hon Richard J. Daronco Civic Leadership Scholarship. Their extracurricular activities include the PMHS Concert Band in the alto saxophone section and the Model UN Club. They are employed as a cashier at DeCicco’s.

Andrew Kelly is president of the Science National Honor Society and a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Math and Spanish honor societies. He was a Genius Olympiad gold medalist and a Regeneron WESEF 3rd place winner and won the Most Outstanding Exhibit in Material Science at Regeneron WESEF. He is active in SOOP Theatre Company and PMHS Sock ‘n’ Buskin Theatre Club. His extracurricular activities include voice lessons and improv comedy classes. His community and volunteer service included a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, virtual math tutoring for children in Ghana and working 2-4 hours a week as  a math tutor for students in Pelham.

In addition to honoring PMHS Scholars of the Month during the school year, Rotary Club of the Pelhams awards a $12,000 scholarship to a graduating PMHS student annually. The funds are donated by Rotary members and the community. For more information about Rotary, visit pelhamrotary.com.
