Celebrate Pelican Pride with a Live Ice Sculpting Performance: Saturday, February 12, 11 am to 1 pm

Come see Pelham’s mascot being carved out of ice! To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Pelham Memorial High School building, the Library will be hosting a live ice sculpting performance on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 11 am to 1 pm. Artisans from Okamoto Custom Ice Studio will carve a 4-foot-tall pelican ice sculpture on the front lawn of the Library. This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Governor’s office and the New York State Legislature and administered by ArtsWestchester.

Learn About New York’s African Burial Ground with David Mills on Zoom: Monday, February 7, 7 pm to 8:00 pm

Author David Mills will be discussing his new poetry collection Boneyarn, about New York’s African Burial Ground. “Whether speaking about or through the voices of nameless servants or chimney sweeps, Mills combines a novelist’s love of character with a poet’s pitch perfect ear for idiom and eye for unforgettable detail,” says critic Alan Shapiro. David Mills is the author of The Sudden Country and The Dream Detective. This program is for teens and adults and a Q & A will follow the reading. This program is presented by the Pelham Public Library in collaboration with the Harrison and Irvington Public Libraries. Please register in advance by clicking here.

Adult Book Clubs Continue 2021-22 Season. Newcomers Welcome!

The After-Dark Book Club will meet on Zoom on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 7:30 pm when we will discuss Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. The 2nd-Friday Book Club will also meet on Friday, February 11, 2022 and we will be reading The Miracle at St. Anna by James McBride. Crafty Adults on Zoom: Polymer Clay Tigers for Lunar New Year! Monday, February 28, 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm

In celebration of Lunar New Year, we’ll be making polymer clay tigers. Participants will need paper towels, a work surface, a piece of foil and an oven or toaster to bake the clay. CHILDREN’S EVENTS

Coding for Kids Online!

Saturday, February 5, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

Back by popular demand, our volunteer, Julia, will again be teaching coding languages for kids. The programs will be held on Saturday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for kids in grades 1 to 5. We will start with learning Scratch the first few weeks then later move to Python. Registration is required. Please email [email protected] to get Zoom link.

Outdoor Story Time Every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:15 am

Join us for our popular story time for infants and toddlers with our new librarians Ms. Tasha and Ms. Florence outside on our front lawn. Story time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented. Please bring a blanket to create social distancing squares. In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled. Please call the library or check our website that morning. Dress warmly!
