Ida Lupino: From Reluctant Actress to Pioneering Director on Zoom, Tuesday, March 29, 7pm

Ida Lupino was the most prominent female filmmaker working in the 1950s Hollywood studio system. With her independent production company, she co-wrote and co-produced several social message films and became the first woman to direct a film noir, The Hitchhiker, in 1953. St. Patrick’s Day Quiz, Monday March 14 to Saturday March 19

Get ready for St. Patrick’s Day by stopping by the Library during the week of March 14-19 to complete our St. Patrick’s Day quiz. Everyone who completes the quiz (or tries to) wins a green beaded necklace to ensure you have something green to wear on St. Paddy’s Day. Quizzes are available at the front circulation desk.

Crafty Adults on Zoom: Friendship Bracelets. Monday March 21, 7:30 to 8:30 pm

Crafty Adults will be making Kumihimo Friendship Bracelets in a daisy pattern. Our color palette will feature purple, white, gold, and green, which are associated with the Suffragettes in honor of Women’s History Month. Crafters will need a pair of scissors and tape. To register, click here.

Tibetan Sound Healing Workshop with Karin Reetz on Zoom. Tuesday March 29, 4 pm to 5 pm

Join us for this online program presented by Karin Reetz, who will be using Himalayan singing bowls to create healing vibrations. For this class you will be sitting and laying down. Dress warmly and have a blanket on hand. This program is being offered in partnership with the Harrison and Tuckahoe Public Libraries. Five Towns, One Book: A Discussion with Heather McGhee, March 27, 2 pm to 3:30 pm

The Coalition for Understanding Racism Through Education (CURE) is bringing towns in Westchester together for an important discussion about racism focused around The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee, in which she introduces an initiative called Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation to heal our communities. Adult Book Clubs Continue 2021-22 Season. Newcomers Welcome!

The After-Dark Book Club will meet on Zoom on Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 pm when we will discuss Lady Clementine by Marie Benedict. The next meeting is April 7th and we will be reading Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. The 2nd-Friday Book Club meets on Friday, March 11 at 10:30 am and will be discussing Circe by Madeline Miller. The next meeting will be Friday April 8 and we will be reading The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri. To join the discussion write to [email protected]. Coloring Women’s History: Month-Long Coloring Project

During the month of March, kids (and anyone else who likes to color) can pick up a packet of coloring pages to take home. The packet includes illustrations and a fun quiz about fascinating women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. And, as an added bonus, the packet also includes original illustrations of famous astronomers that were designed by our own librarian, Tasha Gross!

JLP Reads: Outdoor Story Time, Saturday, March 5, 10:15 to 10:45 am.

The Pelham Library is thrilled to be partnering with the Junior League of Pelham to bring a series of Saturday morning outdoor story times to the community through the JLP Reads program. The program is designed for children aged 4 to 6, but younger children are welcome. Volunteers from the Junior League will be bringing some of their favorite children’s books, as well as child-friendly music, to provide members of the community with fun, engaging experience for their children. In case of inclement weather, please call the Library the morning of the event.

Coding for Kids Online! Saturday, March 5, 19, 26, 10:30 to 12:30 am

In one of our most popular programs, our volunteer, Julia, teaches coding languages for kids in grades 1 to 5. The programs are held most Saturday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for kids. (There will be no class on March 12.) We will start with Scratch the first few weeks then later move to Python. Registration is required. Please email [email protected] to get Zoom link.

Outdoor Story Time Every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:15 am

Join us for our popular story ime for infants and toddlers with our new librarians Ms. Tasha and Ms. Florence outside on our front lawn. Story time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented. Please bring a blanket to create social distancing squares. In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled. Please call the library or check our website that morning. Dress warmly!
