The Pelham Manor Police Association paid homage to several members of the department May 22 during an awards lunch at the Pelham Country Club.

Covering incidents dating back to 2013, honorees stepped up in numerous ways, including saving a life, receiving a commendation and doing other worthy actions. Special presentations were given out to those who went above and beyond the call of duty. Their heroic actions were praised during the event.

“The Pelham Manor Police Association’s awards lunch represented an opportunity to not only recognize our dedicated police officers,” said Police Officer Ryan Witte, president of the association. “It was an opportunity to remember the Pelham Manor police officers that made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The officers in attendance honored three men in particular who made that ultimate sacrifice to keep their community safe. They were honored in spirit with a special table marked “reserved” set aside.

The awards were held for the first time after months of preparation, including selection of officers for honors.

Witte worked with association board members, members of the Pelham Manor government and Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey to create the event.
