Pelham’s first pros: Persanis, Westall join Rugby New York of Major League Rugby

Luke Persanis scored for pro team Rugby New York in his first game.

The PMHS rugby program has produced its first two professional players.

Luke Persanis was invited to join Rugby New York of Major League Rugby in early May, and then North Westall was asked on to the team the day after.

Both players attended their first practice with the full side on May 13, and the next day started for the development team against the New England Free Jacks. Persanis captained the side and both he and Westall were in for the full game, which New York won 28-10.

Both men graduated from Pelham high school. Persanis captained the PMHS team from 2014 to 2017 and Westall from 2014 to 2016.
