Adult Summer Reading Bingo Winner is Brittney Mothner!

Brittney is now the proud owner of a new Kindle! Congrats on the great work! Brittney says she used to listen to a lot of audiobooks while driving her son to school. Now that he takes the bus, the summer reading bingo game was a good way to keep reading, and to get some variety! She loves Victorian novels and read Twelfth because of her child – they both needed/wanted a book about summer camp! What a great idea!

Book Talk: First Phone: A Child’s Guide to Digital Responsibility, Safety and Etiquette

Join author Dr. Catherine Pearlman on Zoom for her tips to ensure kids stay safe, smart and kind online. Dr. Pearlman will explain how and when to monitor children’s phones, how to limit time on social media, and why it’s so important to turn off notifications and keep phones out of the bedroom. Crafty Adults: Oak Leaf and Acorn Brooches

We’re so excited to bring Crafty Adults back to the Library in-person with Sara Mallach! This month, we’ll be making oak leaf and acorn brooches. All materials will be provided. The Tuskegee Airmen

The Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces, were subjected to discrimination both within and outside of the army. Join us to celebrate Veteran’s Day, and to learn more about this group of black men, who proved they could take down enemy aircraft and racial barriers at home. Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks: The Grandmasters of American Comedy

This zoom presentation by Brian Rose will examine Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks’ extraordinary achievements, beginning with their work together on Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows” and their creation of the 2000 Year Old Man, to their individual accomplishments as writers, directors, and performers. “I’ll Have What She’s Having”: The Jewish Deli with the New-York Historical Society

Ed Hotchkiss

Station to Station: Ed Hotchkiss Author Talk at the Library

Ed Hotchkiss spent decades photographing the people of New York’s subways. His recently published book of photography was all done while Ed was a resident of Pelham and commuting to NYC for work in the financial services industry. Ed is a former Mayor and Trustee of the Village of Pelham. After his talk at the library, autographed copies will be available for sale. Registration is not required. Adult Book Clubs-Now Hybrid!

The After-Dark Book Club will meet on Thursday, November 3 at 7:30pm to discuss The Summer Guest by Justin Cronin. After that, get a head start on January’s pick. We will meet Thursday, January 5 at 7:30 to discuss The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish.

The 2nd-Friday Book Club will meet on Friday, November 11 at 10:30am to discuss All the Rivers by Dorit Rabinyan and on Friday, January 13 at 10:30am to discuss Citizens of London: The Americans Who Stood with Britain in Its Darkest, Finest Hour by Lynne Olson.

Both book clubs will be taking a break for the month of December but will be back in January.

Book Clubs are currently meeting both at the Library and on Zoom in a hybrid format. This is subject to change. Please check our website for updates.

Free Covid Test Kits Courtesy of Westchester County

Westchester County has provided the Pelham Library with free Covid-19 home-testing kits for distribution to our community. Residents may pick up kits during library hours while supplies last. Each box contains two nasal-swab antigen tests. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has extended the expiration date for these kits to January, 24, 2023.

Northeast Native American Stories with Anne Jennison

Join us for an evening of virtual storytelling with Anne Jennison, a traditional Native American storyteller with both European and Abenaki heritage. Celebrate the rich and diverse cultural traditions of Native Americans with stories from Abenak and other Northeast Woodlands Indigenous traditions, full of humor, drama, and moments of wonder! Outdoor Story Time

Join us for our popular Story Time for infants and toddlers outside on our front lawn. Story time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented… plus we have a lot of fun! Please bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. Story Time will be held outdoors throughout the year, but will be cancelled on days when the temperature is below 40 degrees at 9 a.m., or if it is raining. Cancellations will be posted on our website at the top of our homepage. You may also call the Library when we open at 10 a.m. to inquire.
