Recycle jack-o’-lanterns at Saturday Pumpkin Smash behind Village of Pelham Hall

Editor’s note: This press release was provided by the Pelham Sustainability Advisory Board. The Pelham Examiner publishes press releases in the form received as a service to the community.

DON’T throw those Halloween pumpkins in the TRASH. Bring them to the PUMPKIN SMASH!

Bring your pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, and gourds this Saturday, November 5th, anytime between 10 am – 2 pm, to the Food Scrap Recycling Drop-Off Site behind Village Hall (195 Sparks Avenue).

Toss and smash them at this fun, green post-Halloween scene and learn more about Pelham’s Food Scrap Recycling Program, Pelham Healthy Yards, and EcoPel initiatives.

The Pumpkin Smash will divert Pelham’s seasonal organic waste from landfills so pumpkins can be recycled into soil as compost. Compost is a natural soil fortifier that helps store carbon, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and grow healthier plants.

If you cannot make the timing of this event, you can still take action to support Pelham’s sustainability and reduce our waste stream.

  • Cut up your pumpkins and drop them into the Food Scrap Recycling large green toters any time
  • Compost pumpkins in your own yard

Painted pumpkins are accepted at the Pumpkin Smash and in the Food Scrap bins. Please remove all decorations and candles.

Do not place pumpkins in curbside leaf piles because they cannot be mixed with yard waste.

We look forward to seeing you for a SMASHING good time!
