New members sought for Pelham panel that recruits, screens school board candidates

Dear Pelham Friends and Neighbors,

Happy New Year! The Pelham Citizens Nominating Committee (CNC) is a nonpartisan organization, the purpose of which is to recruit, interview and nominate highly qualified candidates for the Board of Education. The CNC also serves as a resource to both the Pelham community and the BOE candidates, providing due process appropriate to this level of public service and answering any questions candidates may have as they consider their decision to run for the Board. There are four open seats on the CNC and we are looking for interested community members who would like to be part of this important work. We strive for balance on the CNC, with representation from all neighborhood schools. This year we are in need of committee members from the Prospect Hill neighborhood in particular.

Members of the CNC are persons of integrity and sound judgement, free of all obligations and interests which are or may become in conflict with the interests of the District as a whole. Members of the CNC have an interest in education, a belief in the public school system and the ability to work well with others. Additionally, members understand that the selection, interview and nomination of BOE candidates is a nonpartisan process and the role of a BOE trustee is a nonpartisan role. CNC members may not be an elected public official or any principal officer of an organized political party. CNC members may not be spouses, partners and/or relatives of current BOE members. CNC members are encouraged to attend as many BOE meetings as possible to learn about the Board and its activities.

The CNC Annual meeting will take place on January 24th at 7pm via zoom, the agenda for which includes voting in new committee members and voting on updated bylaws that were approved by the CNC in 2022. The CNC Annual meeting is public, open to all voting members of Pelham. Following this meeting, CNC members can expect to meet at least once a month with meeting frequency and interviews picking up in March-May 2023.

Community members interested in joining the CNC are encouraged to fill out the application on our website, www.pelhamcnc.com. The zoom link and agenda for the Annual Meeting can also be found on our website. Questions can be directed to our inbox, [email protected].

Sincerely,

Sarah McKee & Kimberly A. Riegel, PhD, CNC Co-Chairs 2023
