After a heartbreaking loss to Croton on Thursday, 36-29, the PMHS girls basketball team’s undefeated season came to a close. The upset loss made their record 13-1. Ketchum girls basketball also lost their first game of the season, meaning there are no longer any unbeaten teams in Section 1. Nevertheless, the girls bounced back against formerly No. 4 ranked Panas in a 49-44 win on Saturday. The Pelicans were named No. 4, dethroning Panas from the top 5 power ranking.

The score was close throughout the entirety of the game featuring runs by both sides. Despite this, the Pelicans were able to lead into the half, 33-25. After another intense half of play Panas only trailed by four with 30 seconds left of play. Another clutch performance from the free throw stripe by senior captain Katie Prisco put the game away.

Junior Mia Orlando led the Pelicans with 14 points, followed by Katie Prisco with 12. Senior captain Grace Dunhill earned herself a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. It was a total team effort that led the girls to this upset victory on the road.

The girls will look to begin their next winning streak away against Harrison on Jan. 31 at 5 pm.
