The 2025 World Aquatics Swimming Championships is underway, with two-time Olympic gold medalist and Pelham native Kate Douglass representing the U.S. The competition is being held at the Singapore Sports Hub through August 3, featuring top swimmers from around the world competing in a 50-meter long-course pool.
Most recently, Douglass raced in the 2025 United States National Championships meet at Indiana University. At this qualifying meet for the US worlds team, she won a total of five medals, including golds in both the women’s 100m and 200m breaststroke, and silver in the 50m fly, and will therefore be competing in those events in Singapore. Her fourth-place finish in the 100m free qualified her for the 4x100m freestyle relay at Worlds.
This is the fourth time that the Olympic champion has competed at the long-course world championships. Last December Douglass competed in the short course (25m) variant of the World Aquatics Championships, in which she set world records in the women’s 200m breaststroke (2:12.50) and women’s 200m medley (2:01.63). In addition to her individual world records, Douglass was also a part of two record-breaking relays in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay (3:25.01) and 4x100m medley relay (3:40.01).
Douglass started her Singapore campaign strong Sunday morning, earning a silver medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, with a time of 51.9 seconds in her leg of the relay. Her next appearance will be in the heats of the women’s 100m breaststroke Monday, followed by heats of the women’s 200m breaststroke on July 31. The competition for the women’s 50m butterfly begins on August 1.
