The Village of Pelham Manor is proud to announce its participation in the revival of the Long Island Sound Watershed Intermunicipal Council (LISWIC or Council), a regional partnership dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Long Island Sound watershed through coordinated municipal action.
At a recent meeting, the Board of Trustees approved an intermunicipal agreement formally reaffirming Pelham Manor’s participation in LISWIC and authorizing the Village’s continued membership in the Council. This action reflects Pelham Manor’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship, regional collaboration, and proactive planning to address shared challenges across the watershed.
The Long Island Sound watershed encompasses numerous municipalities that face interconnected topics such as water quality, stormwater management, shoreline protection, climate adaptation, and emergency preparedness. LISWIC provides a structured forum for municipalities to work together on these critical areas through shared knowledge, coordinated strategies, and joint advocacy.
Pelham Manor is proud to be a founding member of LISWIC, having originally joined the Council twenty-seven years ago. Pelham Manor officials look forward to staying involved and maintaining active membership. The collaborative spirit of LISWIC is an effective way to protect our natural resources and strengthen regional partnerships.
Through its participation, the Village of Pelham Manor collaborates with neighboring municipalities, as well as county, state, and federal partners, to advance initiatives that improve resiliency and sustainability throughout the watershed. The Council also serves as a mechanism for sharing best practices, identifying funding opportunities, and coordinating efforts to address both immediate and long-term environmental priorities.
Under the agreement, the Village has appointed representatives to serve on the LISWIC Board of Representatives, ensuring Pelham Manor continues to have a voice in shaping regional policies and initiatives while maintaining full local authority over local land use and municipal operations.
The revival of LISWIC marks a renewed commitment among watershed communities to work collectively toward protecting the Long Island Sound and the surrounding environment for future generations.
