The Pelham Memorial High School varsity football team is off to a fast start in 2025, winning its first two games–a 14-0 win in its season opener against Peekskill High School, and a 34-12 drubbing of Irvington High School at Glover Field last Friday.
In their game against Irvington, the Pelicans outplayed the Bulldogs through every quarter. Pelham took an early 7-0 lead and then dominated the second quarter, in which the Pelicans scored 21 points to go up 28-6. The big halftime lead allowed the squad to cruise for most of the second half, tacking on another six points to seal the 34-12 victory. In the win, the Pelicans’ offense racked up 323 total yards, with 227 yards on the ground and 96 through the air. The stingy defense held Irvington to 167 total yards.
The throttling defensive effort against Irvington followed a shutout the week before against Peekskill at Memorial Field. The 12 total points allowed this season are the fewest given up in the team’s first two games since the 2021-2022 season, when the Pelicans held their opponents to a total of eight points in their first pair of games. On offense, the team has amassed 322 rushing yards in its two wins, as well as 225 passing yards.
Pelham is currently tied for first place in the Section One Class B standings with Pearl River High School and Sleepy Hollow High School.
Following the impressive start at home, Pelham will try to replicate its success on the road. The Pelicans play at Dobbs Ferry High School Friday evening at 6:30. Come up and cheer the team on!
