Pelham Fire Department hosts Pack 8 Webelos for First Responder adventure

Editor’s note: This press release was provided by Pelham Pack 8.

On Wednesday, May 1, the Webelos Cub Scout den from Pelham Pack 8 visited the Village of Pelham Fire Department to fulfill this year’s First Responder adventure.

Firefighter Frank Bellantoni and Lt. Phil DeSimone taught 12 scouts how to respond to various emergencies, like serious bleeding, heart attacks and cardiac arrest, stopped breathing, stroke, and accidental poisoning. The scouts learned how to bandage a wound and Firefighters demonstrated the proper way to apply chest compressions to a person needing Life Saving CPR. All members of the Pelham Fire Department are certified NYS EMT-D’s.

Fire Chief Jim DiNapoli greeted the scouts and their parents, acknowledged the hard work of his firefighters in arranging the event, and was excited about the opportunity. “We are always happy to offer our services to make everyone safer.”

It was a great learning event for all and lots of fun. Thanks, Pelham FD!
